Burlesque: a mixture of satire and performance art
Burlesque, literally translated as ‘a pastiche’, has its origins in the 19th century music hall and vaudeville entertainment, encompassing parodic humour and wit, with a mixture of satire and performance art, and featuring a striptease act. It first appeared in Europe in the early Victorian Era, a time of cultural feud between aristocracy and the working class. This clash gave birth to shows that turned social norms ‘in an upside down style’ or ‘head over heels’ – mocking established entertainment. Purgatory USA ends on a high note with its 7th anniversary

April 18th, 2009 will mark not only the 7 year anniversary to one of the largest and most successful fetish nightlife events in the United States, but also the last ever Purgatory event. Single Cell Productions along with Amos’s Southend Music Hall have expanded the venue to nearly double capacity, blocking off the adjacent parking lot to include both indoor as well as outdoor entertainment, music and fetish-related vendors.
With 10 acclaimed DJs, and more than 25 renowned fetish performance artists along with appearances & autograph signings from models, award winning photographers and more, this Purgatory promises to be the biggest and best one ever, not to mention the perfect example of “ending on a high note”.

Two Knotty Boys launch “Back On the Ropes”
The Knotty Boys had the Northern California release party for their second book, “Back On the Ropes” at Bondage-a-Go-Go on Wednesday, the 4th of March 2009.
Some of San Francisco’s finest local fetish luminaries were out to support Dan and JD. To name a few: Ken Marcus – their photographer for this book; Lochai – rigger, artist the new manager and inspiration for hogtied.com; Michael Blue – fetish photographer and former co-owner of Beauty Bound, and fetish and bondage model Kumi.
Being the sharing sort, Dan and JD didn’t just bring their books, but also gave a very fun duo-model demo of their rope-art skills, including a very dynamic suspension.
Whether the addition of The Knotty Boys and their friends had anything to do with it is not certain, but according to the club’s promoter, “T’was the best night so far in ‘09!” with the club packed with happy perverts of all stripes and variations, despite the cold rain literally pouring down on the San Francisco streets outside.
